Christian Science in Newark, DE

In 1879  Mary Baker Eddy established the Church of  Christ, Scientist.  Its mission then and now is “to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing” (Manual of the Mother Church).

As a branch of the Mother Church (in Boston, MA), we see all our church activities as healing opportunities bringing renewal and healing to our members, visitors, community and world.  Mary Baker Eddy defines church as “the structure of Truth and Love” and our members seek to learn and grow in their individual understanding of this idea with expectation of progress and fruition.

Our church is located just off of the University of Delaware campus, about a mile from I-95, exit 1. We are grateful to offer enrichment and refreshment to all spiritual seekers.

Our public Reading Room is conveniently located in downtown Newark and is open to everyone.

About Our Church

10:30 AM (childcare available)

Our Sunday worship service revolves around readings from our dual Pastor—the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. These readings come from the Christian Science weekly Bible Lesson, on subjects such as Truth, Life, Love, and Christ Jesus.

This same Lesson-Sermon is read in all Christian Science churches around the world. A vocal solo, hymn singing, and prayer complete this healing service.

Be still and know that I am God”.  (Psalms 46:10)

Thanksgiving Service: At this special annual service we gather together to hear readings from our Pastor, to sing songs of praise and thanksgiving, and to pray.  Then congregants are invited to express gratitude for God’s limitless goodness, power, and all-encompassing love.

About Our Sunday School

10:30 AM (childcare available)

Sunday School is held every Sunday morning at the same time as our Sunday worship service for young people from ages 3 to 19. It’s a lively place where pupils learn how to pray effectively and to love and depend on God as “a very present help”. (Psalms 46:1).

They study the spiritual meaning of the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, the Lord’s Prayer and Bible stories featured in the Christian Science weekly Bible lesson. Through questions and answers they explore the impact of Jesus’ healing work and how his ministry—his life, his word and his works—can guide them in their daily lives.

“And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children.”  (Isaiah 54:13)

We provide a Children’s Room for little ones too young for Sunday School. An attendant is prepared to watch over your child while you attend the service. The Children’s Room is open for Sunday services, Wednesday meetings, lectures and our Thanksgiving Day Service.

“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.” (Isaiah 40:11)

Wednesday Testimony Meeting

7:30 PM

Each Wednesday evening, there is hymn singing and prayer, along with readings from the Bible and Science and Health focusing on a timely topic, such as peace, forgiveness, or unity.

Then members of the congregation give testimonies praising God and sharing insights and experiences of spiritual growth and healing through their study of Christian Science.

“Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.” (Psalms 95: 2)
